You can pay the exam fee online by net banking, debit card, credit card or UPI, before the last date. Cash or postal orders are not accepted, and the fee cannot be paid at the counter. After paying, wait for the confirmation on screen and don’t click Back or Refresh.
Exam Pattern
The exam is a single paper of SSLC (10th) standard, objective type, answered on an OMR sheet.
| Part | Subject | Questions | Maximum marks |
|---|---|---|---|
| Part A | Tamil Eligibility-cum-Scoring Test | 100 | 150 |
| Part B | General Knowledge | 75 | 150 |
| Part C | Aptitude and Mental Ability | 25 | |
| Total | 200 | 300 | |
- Duration: 3 hours (9:30 AM to 12:30 PM)
- Minimum qualifying marks: 90 out of 300 for all categories
- Part A cut-off: you must score at least 40% (60 marks) in Part A. Only then are your Part B and Part C answers evaluated.
- Language: Part A questions are in Tamil only. Parts B and C are in Tamil and English.
- Rank: your rank is decided by your total marks in Parts A, B and C.
- Candidates with disabilities who studied only English (without Tamil as a language) can take a General English (SSLC standard) paper instead of Part A, but must score at least 40% (60 marks) in it.
The syllabus is given in Annexure III of the notification. The commission can increase or decrease the number of questions in each unit.
Selection Process
- Written exam (single paper, OMR). There is no interview.
- Rank list based on your marks in the written exam, with reservation rules applied.
- Onscreen certificate verification before original certificate verification. For Junior Assistant, Typist and Steno-Typist posts, candidates are called in the ratio of 1:3 for the general category and 1:2 for reserved categories. For Forest Guard and Forest Watcher the call is 1:6.
- Original certificate verification and counselling in the notified ratio. For example, for VAO, Junior Assistant and Steno-Typist Grade III it is 1:3 for the general category and 1:1.5 for reserved categories.
- Allotment of posts in rank order, based on your post preferences.
Tie-break rules: if two or more candidates have equal marks, the one with the higher educational qualification is ranked first. For typist and steno-typist posts, a higher typewriting or shorthand grade also gets priority. After that, the older candidate is ranked first, and if age is also the same, the candidate who applied earlier is ranked first.
Your admission to the exam is provisional. The Commission can reject your application at any stage, even after selection, if you are found not to meet the conditions or if you gave wrong information.

- Preview the form and submit. Take a printout for your records.
Photograph and signature
| Item | Requirement |

Application correction
You can edit your application until the last date. After that, you get a separate correction window from 09.11.2026 to 11.11.2026. After the correction window closes, no changes are allowed.
Hall Ticket and Exam Day Rules
- The hall ticket can be downloaded from tnpscexams.in. It is not sent by post.

- You can only write the exam at the centre allotted to you, and requests to change the centre are not accepted.

- Candidates found with banned items can be stopped from writing the exam, and their answer sheets will not be evaluated. The Commission says it cannot take responsibility for the safety of items you bring.
Tips Before You Apply
- Pick your post code carefully. Qualification and age differ a lot between posts. Check the code in the table above and then the PDF.
- Don’t miss the Part A cut-off. A score below 60 out of 150 in the Tamil test means your Part B and C papers will not be checked, so give Tamil serious time.
- Keep your SSLC mark sheet handy. Name, date of birth and register number in the application must match it.
- Typist and Steno posts need certificates early. If you are applying for these, make sure your typewriting or shorthand certificate and computer certificate details are ready.
- Apply before the last week. Website traffic goes up near the deadline.
- Read the fee concession rules first. Claiming it wrongly can lead to rejection and a one-year bar.
- Follow only official sources. TNPSC warns candidates to be careful of agents who promise jobs for money, and it does not take responsibility for losses from such people.
