The syllabus is given in Annexure III of the notification. The commission can increase or decrease the number of questions in each unit.

Selection Process

  1. Written exam (single paper, OMR). There is no interview.
  2. Rank list based on your marks in the written exam, with reservation rules applied.
  3. Onscreen certificate verification before original certificate verification. For Junior Assistant, Typist and Steno-Typist posts, candidates are called in the ratio of 1:3 for the general category and 1:2 for reserved categories. For Forest Guard and Forest Watcher the call is 1:6.
  4. Original certificate verification and counselling in the notified ratio. For example, for VAO, Junior Assistant and Steno-Typist Grade III it is 1:3 for the general category and 1:1.5 for reserved categories.
  5. Allotment of posts in rank order, based on your post preferences.

Tie-break rules: if two or more candidates have equal marks, the one with the higher educational qualification is ranked first. For typist and steno-typist posts, a higher typewriting or shorthand grade also gets priority. After that, the older candidate is ranked first, and if age is also the same, the candidate who applied earlier is ranked first.

Your admission to the exam is provisional. The Commission can reject your application at any stage, even after selection, if you are found not to meet the conditions or if you gave wrong information.

Tips Before You Apply

  • Pick your post code carefully. Qualification and age differ a lot between posts. Check the code in the table above and then the PDF.
  • Don’t miss the Part A cut-off. A score below 60 out of 150 in the Tamil test means your Part B and C papers will not be checked, so give Tamil serious time.
  • Keep your SSLC mark sheet handy. Name, date of birth and register number in the application must match it.
  • Typist and Steno posts need certificates early. If you are applying for these, make sure your typewriting or shorthand certificate and computer certificate details are ready.
  • Apply before the last week. Website traffic goes up near the deadline.
  • Read the fee concession rules first. Claiming it wrongly can lead to rejection and a one-year bar.
  • Follow only official sources. TNPSC warns candidates to be careful of agents who promise jobs for money, and it does not take responsibility for losses from such people.
