A realistic view of a modern workplace representing the industry associated with the recruitment opportunity.

NGEL Recruitment 2026 is now open. NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL), the renewable energy subsidiary of NTPC Limited, has released Advertisement No. 02/26 inviting applications for experienced professionals in its Renewable Energy division. The company is hiring for two positions — Assistant Engineer (E-0 Grade) and Deputy General Manager (E-6 Grade) — across its corporate offices, stations, sites, clusters, and subsidiaries all over India.

This isn’t an entry-level drive. Both posts under NGEL Recruitment 2026 require solid prior experience in the power sector, and specifically in grid-connected solar or wind projects — so it’s worth reading the eligibility carefully before you invest time preparing your application.

The Two Posts in NGEL Recruitment 2026, and Who They’re Actually For

Assistant Engineer – RE (Asset Management/O&M), E-0 Grade — 100 posts This is for diploma holders (Electrical, Mechanical, Electronics, Electrical & Electronics, or Instrumentation) who already have a decade of site experience in the power sector — not a fresh diploma graduate role, despite the “Assistant” title. Of those 10 years, at least 6 must be specifically in operation and maintenance or asset management of a grid-connected solar or wind project of 50 MW or larger. If your background is in conventional thermal power rather than renewables, this particular post likely isn’t a fit — the O&M experience has to be in solar/wind specifically.

Deputy General Manager – RE, E-6 Grade — 14 posts This is a senior executive-cadre role for engineering graduates (Electrical, Electrical & Electronics, Electronics, Control & Instrumentation, Civil, or Mechanical) with a minimum 60% aggregate and 12 years of post-qualification executive experience. At least 10 of those years need to be with a renewable energy developer working on solar and/or wind, and you need a minimum 2 years of hands-on site experience specifically in project construction, erection, or commissioning of a 50 MW+ project. If you’re currently in a government or PSU role and applying for this grade, there’s an additional condition: you need at least 2 years at the E-5 grade or equivalent pay scale (₹80,000–₹2,20,000 IDA scale) within your 12 years of experience.

Age Limit

PostUpper Age Limit
Assistant Engineer (E-0)40 years
Deputy General Manager (E-6)44 years

Age relaxation applies as per government norms: 5 years for SC/ST, 3 years for OBC, 10 years for PwBD candidates, and as applicable for Ex-Servicemen. All age and experience calculations are done as of the last date of application — 31 July 2026.

Pay Scale

PostPay ScaleInitial Basic Pay
Assistant Engineer (E-0)₹30,000 – ₹1,20,000₹40,000
Deputy General Manager (E-6)₹90,000 – ₹2,40,000₹90,000

Both come with Dearness Allowance and other perquisites as per company rules, in addition to the basic pay shown above.

How to Apply for NGEL Recruitment 2026

  1. Visit the careers section at www.ngel.in
  2. Register with a valid, permanent email ID — you cannot change it later, and all correspondence including interview calls will go there
  3. Fill in the online application form with your personal, academic, and experience details
  4. Pay the registration fee if applicable to your category
  5. Upload all required documents (see below) — this step matters more than usual for this recruitment
  6. Download and save the system-generated application slip with your unique form number

No documents need to be posted physically — everything is verified from what you upload.

Documents You’ll Need to Upload

This recruitment is stricter than most on documentation, since experience verification is central to eligibility. Keep these ready before you start:

  • Class X certificate and Aadhaar/PAN card (for name and date of birth proof — these must match across all documents)
  • Diploma marksheets (for E-0) or engineering degree marksheets (for E-6), showing aggregate percentage
  • CGPA-to-percentage conversion formula from your university, if your marksheet uses a grade point system
  • Caste/disability/EWS certificate if claiming a reserved category, in the current prescribed central format for FY 2026-27
  • Disability certificate generated through the Swalamban/UDID portal, if applicable
  • Experience documents for every employer, arranged chronologically from your current employer backward. For each organization, you need at least one of: experience/service certificate, appointment letter with joining/relieving letter, or two payslips per year of service — plus something showing your actual role and work area, like a role assignment order, org chart, or transfer/promotion order

That last point is worth emphasizing: the notification specifically warns that incomplete or poorly organized experience documentation can get an otherwise-eligible application rejected at the scrutiny stage. If you’re applying for this, budget real time to assemble your experience proof properly rather than uploading it at the last minute.

Selection Process

NGEL has kept this flexible rather than fixed — the process may include application screening, a written test, group discussion, and/or interview, in any combination, and the company can raise the minimum eligibility bar if there are too many applicants to manage efficiently. In short: meeting the minimum criteria gets you considered, not guaranteed a call.

A Few Things Worth Knowing Before You Apply

Government/PSU employees will need a No Objection Certificate (NOC) at the interview stage — if you don’t have it ready by then, you can still appear provisionally with an undertaking to submit it later or arrange your relieving before joining.

Health matters here too: candidates need to clear a medical exam at a government hospital before joining, based on norms published on the NGEL website. If you have a known condition, it’s worth checking those medical standards before you go through the full application process.

Postings can be anywhere across NGEL’s corporate offices, sites, stations, projects, or subsidiaries — this is not a fixed-location role, and postings are transferable at the company’s discretion. NGEL Recruitment 2026: Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Assistant Engineer post open to fresh diploma holders? No. Despite the E-0 grade sounding entry-level, it requires 10 years of post-qualification site experience, with at least 6 years specifically in solar/wind O&M or asset management on projects of 50 MW or more.

Can someone from a thermal power background apply? The eligibility criteria specifically require solar and/or wind project experience for the qualifying years — general power sector background alone (e.g. only thermal) doesn’t meet the core requirement.

Do SC/ST/PwBD candidates need to pay the application fee? No. The ₹500 fee applies only to General, EWS, and OBC candidates. SC, ST, PwBD, Ex-Servicemen, and female candidates are exempt.

What happens if my experience documents are incomplete? The notification is explicit that incomplete, insufficient, or illegibly arranged experience documentation can lead to your application being rejected during scrutiny — even if you otherwise meet the eligibility criteria.

Is there a written exam for both posts? NGEL hasn’t fixed this — the selection process may include screening, written test, group discussion, and/or interview depending on the number of applicants, at the company’s discretion.
